Family
I am a parent of two amazing children. My oldest was assigned the wrong gender at birth and is working through their journey with a fierceness that impresses me. They are getting ready to head off to college next year and study forensic psychology. My youngest is a middle schooler that knows the lines from movies I didn’t even know existed.
I am sharing this journey with my partner, Jon Kirby from Detroit. He is the tortoise to my hare and my favorite partner in crime. He works in renewable energy and his projects are providing energy to people in the West.
We are an intergenerational family, which means, my mom aka GMA lives with us. Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter how old you are, if it’s not one thing it’s your mother. GMA keeps it real and keeps us honest. We love being an intergenerational family.
In writing this, I recognize fully that family is not always a safe space for people. As a survivor, I understand this completely. Family is who we decide is our family and if a family is not unhealthy, you don’t have to choose that family. Choose a family that loves you unconditionally, will call you on your tom foolery, and bail you outta of a jam.
